Slimming World fans love 'fancy' recipe with one three-syn ingredient

This lighter version of a rich Scottish classic is perfect for people on the Slimming World programme.

Cranachan is a traditional Scottish dessert made with thick whipped cream, oats, honey, tart raspberries and lashings of strong whisky. This simple, diet-friendly version, created by food bloggers and chefs TwoChubbyCubs, substitutes the heavy cream for 0% fat Greek yoghurt for a lighter, tangier taste.

Described as "like a fancy overnight oats recipe", blog writer James said: "You could leave the whisky out, but it really is a key part of this, and it doesn’t overpower the dish so it’s absolutely worth doing. Up to you how you want to portion this out – up the oats, reduce the Greek yoghurt, add more raspberries, or throw it all in the bin and have yet another Vienetta."

This "lovely, filling, unusual dessert" makes up four of the 15 allocated "syns" Slimming World followers are allowed each day. Skipping the alcohol reduces this even further, to just one "syn".

The ingredients are:

  • 40g oats

  • a big handful of fresh raspberries

  • 100ml of 0% fat Greek yoghurt

  • 1 teaspoon of honey (1 syn)

  • 25ml of whisky (3 syns)

Method:

  • toast oats in a pan until they smell nutty

  • in a bowl, crush raspberries lightly with a fork, being careful not to mash them completely

  • combine yoghurt, oats, honey, whisky, and raspberries and stir, or layer it like a trifle

  • serve with a couple of raspberries on the top and some of the oats
