Slocomb family loses everything in house fire, donations being accepted

SLOCOMB, Ala. (WDHN) — A Geneva County fire department is asking for donations to help a family that lost everything in a house fire this week.

On Monday, April 8, Slocomb Fire and Rescue rushed to a house at 1403 South State Highway 103, just south of Slocomb, after receiving a report of a spread grease fire.

According to Slocomb Fire and Rescue, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the home and immediately began attacking the fire, quickly putting out the flames. The family had been evacuated before emergency units arrived.

A social media post from SF&R says the home was saved, but most of the items and appliances in the house were unsalvageable due to fire, smoke, and water damage.

The department is asking for donations to help the family:

  • Clothes:

    • Adult male medium shirt, 29 x 32 pants

    • Teen male medium shirt, 29×32 pants

    • Teen male medium shirt, 14 – 16 boys pants

    • Toddler boy 2T

    • Baby boy 6-9M

    • Adult female 2x, shirt 14 pants

  • Shoe sizes:

    • Womens 9

    • Men 9 and 10

    • Toddler 7 or 8

  • Diaper sizes:

    • 3 and 4 (any brand of diapers and wipes are acceptable)

  • Basic baby necessities: The infant baby is currently using Enfamil Gentlease.

All donations can be dropped off at Slocomb Fire and Rescue, 324 South State Highway 103, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Checks can be made to Conner Palmer.
