Glasses have been raised after a pub in a small town was named the CAMRA Bristol and District Pub of the Year for 2024. The Horseshoe, in Chipping Sodbury, was awarded the title following a secret vote.

The award covers the areas of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Weston-super-Mare, Bath and North East Somerset. The High Street pub beat all others after being judged on a wide criteria that included how well its real ales are kept, how warm a welcome is given to customers, the pubs ambience, and the general facilities it offers.

The pub's landlords, Matt and Jo Lewis, said: "We are absolutely delighted to accept such a prestigious award on behalf of The Horseshoe from CAMRA, to be acknowledged and noticed of how passionate we are as a team has truly blown me away. We will never be complacent, and will continue to strive to make The Horseshoe a fantastic pub.”

The pub will now represent CAMRA Bristol and District when heading into the regional finals stage of the awards. The Horseshoe is set in a Grade II-listed building which dates back to the 15th Century and, legend has it, the pub is haunted. Some of its most intriguing features include a sink in its cellar that is said to be over 500 years old, and some even believe there to be a hidden room down there.

Recently renovated and decorated, nowadays the pub boasts seven ever-changing real ales to choose from, as well as a wide range of ciders, lagers, spirits, mixers, and soft drinks. It also boasts live music and events throughout the year, as well as live sport.
