Smash shuts A41 as casualty freed from wreckage

Police shut a key road after a smash left a casualty trapped. Emergency services were called out to Chester Road in Whitchurch to reports of a smash between a lorry and a car.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent a crew from Malpas after the alarm was raised around 1.30pm with two engines coming from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles. Crews used cutting equipment to get one person free from one of the vehicles. They were handed to the care of paramedics. Police closed the road in both directions while the incident was dealt with."

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "The incident involved a car and a lorry. The driver of the car is believed to have suffered minor injuries. The road was closed while the incident was dealt with but has since reopened."
