'Smells Like a Campfire': Smoke From Canada Wildfires Chokes Western New York

Smoke from hundreds of Canadian wildfires prompted air-quality alerts across upstate New York on Tuesday, June 6, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Footage captured by Twitter user @jodispayne70 shows hazy conditions in Rochester on Tuesday afternoon. “It smells like a campfire, really horrible,” they told Storyful, “but it makes for amazing sunrises and sunsets,” they added.

The NWS forecasted the air-quality alert to remain in place for the area until midnight Wednesday night. Credit: @jodispayne70 via Storyful
