Smethwick bar shooting update as police make attempted murder arrest

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after gunshots were fired at a bar last month. Three people were injured during the shooting in a 3.30am attack in Smethwick.

West Midlands Police continue to probe the incident at Avenue Bar Restaurant & Grill, based in Rolfe Street, at 3.30am, on June 17. Two men, one aged in his 40s, and the other in his 20s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. A woman was also taken to hospital with injuries but was discharged.

Police said that a 21-year-old man has been detained after "acting on information" yesterday, Saturday, July 6. A 23-year-old man was previously arrested and bailed while police inquiries continue.

In a statement, police said: "We've arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after gun shots were fired at a venue in Smethwick last month. We acted on information and yesterday detained a man in connection with the incident at Avenue Bar and Restaurant in Rolfe Street.

"The 21-year-old currently remains in custody for questioning. Three people were injured after gunshots were fired during the early hours of 17 June. A 23-year-old man was previously arrested and bailed while our enquiries continue.
