Smoke Seen on Paris Streets as Student Protesters Face Police in Mossy

Crowds of students and grey smoke were visible on the streets of Mossy, Paris, on December 11, after demonstrators protesting new education policies were confronted by police.

Demonstrations on December 11 came after a student union called for a “Mardi Noir,” or Black Tuesday, to stand against new education policies and show support for the Gilets Jaunes, or Yellow Jackets, whose widespread protests have forced French President Emmanuel Macron to call for peace.

The nationwide mobilization included thousands of students, according to a press release. The Union Nationale Lycéenne has also called for those working as administrators in public education to strike on Thursday, December 13.

At least 450 schools across France were affected by the demonstrations on Tuesday, according to Le Figaro. Sixty were reportedly closed by blockades. Credit: @thibaud_ri via Storyful
