Snake Catcher Removes Venomous Snake From Child's Bed

A venomous red-bellied black snake was removed from a Jimboomba, Queensland, home after it was discovered curled up in a child’s bed on Sunday, June 16.

Bryce Lockett, a snake catcher with Snake Catchers Brisbane and Gold Coast, responded to the call to relocate the snake and, in a post to Facebook, said the snake was “trying to blend in with some cuddle toys.”

According to the Australian Museum, “red-bellied black snakes are one of the most frequently encountered snakes on the east coast of Australia, and are responsible for a number of bites every year.”

The snake venom has “predominantly anticoagulant and myotoxic effects,” but very few human deaths have resulted in bites from the snake. Many victims experience mild or negligible symptoms. However, anyone with a suspected bite should seek medical attention as soon as possible. Credit: Bryce Lockett via Storyful
