Snake Catcher's 'Insane' Removal of Black Mamba From House Goes Viral

A video of a snake catcher removing a black mamba from a house in South Africa has gone viral on TikTok, garnering over 5 million views.

Hoedspruit Reptile Centre’s footage features senior curator Jessica Joubert stoically relocating the snake from a windowsill in Hoedspruit. She swiftly grabs the snake with her bare hand, and it then coils around her arm.

Many commenters noted her “insane” bravery as she calmly handled one of the deadliest snakes in the world.

In contrast with snake catchers in Australia, for example, who use large bags attached to a metal rod and hoop, the video shows Joubert carefully placing the snake headfirst into a collapsed pillowcase-like bag, then slowly guiding the rest of its body inside.

The company told Storyful that South Africa is currently facing an anti-venom shortage, so it’s important that people do not try to interact with snakes themselves and call an expert for assistance. Credit: Hoedspruit Reptile Centre via Storyful
