Sofia Vergara Can Blindly Identify Different Coffees and How They Were Made

Sofia Vergara is a self-made coffee expert.

In a series of clips posted to Netflix’s Instagram account, the Modern Family alum — who is promoting her new series Griselda — tried five different cups of coffee to see if she could guess what type they were and how they were made. Spoiler alert: She was spot on!

In the first clip, she starts by saying she loves coffee and has even developed a skill in which she could “identify a variety of coffees and even tell you how they were brewed.”

For the first round, she guessed that she was sipping on Folgers coffee brewed from a drip machine. “It was poorly made,” she admitted. She turned the mug’s plate over to find that her guess was correct.

Next up, she tried a coffee she was actually pleased with. “It’s definitely Café Bustelo because it’s so strong,” she said after one small sip. “This might have been made the old traditional way with a sock or maybe a Keurig?” She was correct, once again, with the brand and machine being the right answers (minus the sock).

Vergara saw right through her third taste test. “Easy. This is an espresso coffee and it was done in a Nespresso machine,” she revealed. The foam and the “little bitterness of the Nespresso that I love,” are what gave away this one for the actress.

The fourth one was promising at first, but proved otherwise after her sip. “This looks beautiful. It smells Colombian,” she said. “I feel like it’s an espresso, but it’s too big to be an espresso. I think somebody messed it up."

While her guesses were correct (Colombian coffee brewed in an espresso machine), the cup wasn’t brewed to Vergara’s liking. “Definitely made wrong by an American,” she quipped.

The final round saved the best for last. “It’s very watery. I think this is like a coffee that is instant,” she said after one try. When she turned over the plate, she was correct (again!). “Nescafé. Instant coffee. I win!” she exclaimed.

“See? You don’t mess with Colombians and their coffee,” she said to close out the clip.

Vergara's most recent starring role is in the Netflix limited series Griselda. The six-episode drama finds Vergara playing the title role of Griselda Blanco, a murderous Miami queenpin.

The series was created by Narcos and Narcos: Mexico showrunner Eric Newman and is directed by Andrés Baiz. Along with serving as an executive producer, Vergara stars alongside Latin music star Carolina Giraldo (aka Karol G), who plays Carla, one of Griselda's most trusted confidants.

Griselda is streaming now on Netflix.
