Sony Pictures accidentally upload entire movie to Youtube instead of trailer

While fans have long complained about trailers spoiling movies, Sony Pictures has taken that to a new extreme: the studio uploaded an entire movie onto YouTube, labelled as a trailer.

Khali the Killer: Official Red Band Trailer’ was intended to offer fans just a snapshot of the crime drama Khali the Killer. However, viewers were unknowingly treated to the entire movie.

With a runtime of just under and hour and a half, the upload included the full credits but was not available in HD.

What’s perhaps more incredible is that Sony took over six hours to remove upload, which clocked over 11,000 views.

Sceptics may believe that the upload was intended as a marketing ploy, the movie now available on streaming services (and purchasable on DVD since last November).

However, putting an entire movie up for free on YouTube seems like an overly risky venture for a major studio, who are likely now looking into why the incident occurred. Then again, Khali the Killer has received some pretty awful reviews, with a score of 3.8/10 on movie database IMDB. No reviews have been clocked for the 2017 flick on Rotten Tomatoes, as of writing.

The synopsis reads: ”After deciding to retire, an East L.A. hit man decides to take one last job to help support his ailing grandmother’s end of life care. But everything falls apart, when he develops empathy for the targets of his hit, and he’s forced to make the toughest decision of his life.”
