This weekend marks the return of Southport Air Show where crowds will be able to watch impressive aerial displays from the Red Arrows. The family friendly event takes place on the Sefton coast on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14.

The first Southport Airshow was held in Merseyside in 1991. The airshow usually takes place in September, and attracts around 150,000 spectators making it the North West's largest Airshow.

Its programme includes a mixture of military and civilian aircraft, classic jets, warbirds, helicopters, aerobatics and parachute displays. The show also features a host of interactive and educational displays, flight simulators, military vehicles, assault courses, bungee trampolines, and children's activities.

There will be a military village on Marine Drive over the weekend where members of the armed forces will be on hand, while a Spitfire Mark IX replica will also be on display. There will also be a paintball range, bouncy castles and the traditional hook-a-duck game.

For this year, a number of changes have been implemented to ensure that the celebrations runs more smoothly than in 2023 when poor weather led to the Red Arrows display being cancelled. A new traffic management company has been appointed and they have established improvements to the traffic flow into the car parks.

An additional car park will accommodate the parking spaces that have been lost from closing the beach parking. And there will also be better signage and increased staff numbers to manage the traffic.

According to Air Show bosses, there will also be more staff running the entrances and organisers have introduced queuing systems. The layouts have been changed to ensure a smooth and efficient entry.

The Southport Air Show opens at 10am and closes at 5pm each day. The flying display starts around midday and ends around 5pm.

On both days the show closes at approximately 6pm. For full details on the dates, how to get there, and the weekend schedule you can read our guide here.
