Spain announces 'unprecedented' new laws for UK tourists to make holidays 'more difficult'
Spain has announced "unprecedented" new laws in the European Union holiday hotspot - which will make it "more difficult" for UK tourists. Non European Union foreigners face tougher paths to buy homes in the sun-kissed holiday hotspot.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Monday an unprecedented measure in Spain in terms of housing and it will make it more difficult for non-EU foreigners from outside the EU to buy houses .
"We have decided that we are going to limit the purchase of houses by non-EU foreigners from outside the EU," Sanchez said. The head of Eje, Sánchez, has highlighted that this is a measure "unprecedented in Spain", which is applied in other countries such as Denmark or Canada.

Another of the central axes of this document, which includes 12 measures, is that the public housing company is taking its first steps. "The Government has just transferred more than 3,300 homes and almost two million square meters of residential land to the recently created public housing company," he stressed.
In addition, he reported that these properties will be used for affordable rental, he explained. He also announced that "during the first half of the year, the company will begin to incorporate the more than 30,000 Sareb homes."
The objective is that "what is built and rehabilitated with public money will always remain the property of the Spanish people and will not end up in the hands of vulture funds." Spain is planning to build 25,000 new homes thanks to the mobilisation of 6,000 million euros in ICO loans and guarantees.
The Government will propose to the Congress of Deputies the approval of a 100% tax exemption from personal income tax for those owners who rent their homes according to the reference index, even if they are located in areas declared as stressed, it said.
The President of the Government also insists on the need to put a stop to tourist rentals. " We are committed to putting all the resources of the State into this cause, and in fact we are already doing so. We will not leave an ounce of effort in achieving this goal. We will give our all to this cause, because the cause of housing is also the cause of a more just society," he said.
