Spanish plea for Canaries and Balearics quarantine exemption snubbed as UK nationals advised to stay away

The Foreign Office has issued a warning against all non-essential travel by UK nationals to Spain's Balearic and Canary islands, despite a plea from Madrid to exempt them from restrictions imposed due to flare-up of coronavirus on the mainland.

The move brings the islands in line with mainland Spain, which Britons were advised on Saturday to avoid visiting if possible. At the same time a 14-day quarantine was imposed on all travellers arriving from anywhere in the country, effectively wrecking thousands of holidays.
