Special vigil to be held in Dumfries for the children of Palestine

The Dumfries and Galloway Palestine Solidarity Campaign is to hold a special commemorative vigil for the children of Palestine in Dumfries on Saturday.

The solemn gathering at the Burns statue aims to be “reflective, thoughtful and mournful”, according to organiser Stephen McLean.

Mr McLean, from Laurieston, said: “This will be a way to help us think about this terrible tragedy, feel the loss, and be motivated to remember and act.

“We will mainly have poetry and music, ritual, storytelling and communal actions. While it will be mainly adult oriented, children who come will be welcome and involved.”

Mr McLean added: “We are inviting people to come at the usual time, 2pm, and bring a teddy bear, doll or toy or some other symbol of childhood with them.”
