Spectacular Strawberry Moon on display in UK tonight and Coventry is one of the best places to see it

A spectacular Strawberry Moon is set to be on display in the skies tonight and according to experts, Coventry is one of the best places to see it. A Strawberry Moon is the first full moon in June and is named after the wild strawberries that ripped at this time of year.

Bokun, a travel booking management software provider, has taken a look at NASA data to name the top places to see it in the UK.

And according to their research Coventry comes in the top five, after Edinburgh, Newcastle upon Tyne and Bradford.

The list is based on factors such as the highest visibility distance out of cities and the lowest expected cloud cover during the full moon.

But anyone who wants to see it will have to stay up late. The Strawberry Moon is expected to shine the brightest at 1.08am tomorrow morning (Saturday 22).

If you miss it, there will be a chance to spot the Blue Moon on August 19 and a partial Lunar eclipse on September 18. Daniel Hasselbach, UK Country Manager at Bókun , said: “We have seen increased interest in the cosmos, with over 2.28 million people eager to find out ‘When is the next Full Moon?’. This is likely attributed to the fact that it is becoming increasingly more difficult to witness these astrological wonders from home due to a 10% average rise in light pollution.”

“Beyond its radiant beauty, many marvel at the full moon as the embodiment of shared experience around the world which transcends generations. This moon, in particular, dubbed the ‘Strawberry Moon’, is the first full moon of the Summer season. Its name is derived from Native Americans who associated it with the time of year when strawberries are ripe for harvesting.”
