The speed quiz where 'there's virtually no way you can cheat'

A Liverpool DJ and local comedian told how they were approached to host a weekly quiz at one of Liverpool's newest venues.

Mervyn Lynch, AKA DJ2Kind, and comedian Sarah Levine launched the event at the Baltic's BoxPark back in April. Guest hosts included the Chase's Shaun Wallace and actor Shaun Williamson who played Barry in Eastenders.

DJ2Kind told the ECHO: "We were approached by the events manager and, to be honest, I was unsure at first as I’ve never hosted a quiz before and I knew Sarah was the same. When he first asked it was 'Oh I don't know as it's a bit out of our comfort zone'.

"It's all about speed quizzing. There’s no pens, no paper and virtually no way you can cheat. People access it on their phone. It's very fast-paced and a lot of fun as well. he numbers have been getting better each week. People are enjoying it. People are really serious about quizzing.

Sarah said: "My part is to be with the audience and ask the questions. I have a little bit of banter as we go along, the way you kind of do crowd work as a comedian in a comedy set. I do that in the midst of asking the questions.

"It's fun, it’s nice, it's boss. Every week it gets a little easier as it’s very nerve-racking as I’ve never been a host before. Sometimes I can’t read a word because I’m dyslexic. I'll make a joke of it and Merv reads the part he knows I can't."

Quizzer Hamide said: "This is my second time here. We love it. We think it's a great vibe, great energy. The staff are lovely and the quiz is amazing. We're all one team, the Wolfpack, there’s a lot of us. "

Events manager Johahn Moore said: "We have brilliant hosts; Sarah and Mervyn, Sarah brings that comedic and fun element."
