A speeding driver was arrested after they tested positive for drugs.

The vehicle was travelling at excess speed on the busy A41 at Bicester this morning (June 22) when it was pulled over by traffic officers.

The police carried out a roadside test using a swab device called a drug wipe.

The driver  provided a positive result for cannabis.

Thames Valley Police's roads policing unit said they were arrested and taken to Banbury police station.

They underwent a blood procedure to ascertain the precise levels of the drug in their blood.

Drug driving carries a range of penalties including a 12-month driving ban, a fine, a six-month prison sentence and an endorsement on your licence for up to 11 years.
