I spent a small fortune at York Christmas Market but it was worth it
As Christmas Day gets nearer, the fear of leaving it too late to buy Christmas presents grows bigger. So a trip to York Christmas Market was in desperate order.
Although the intention to go to York for the famous Christmas Market to get gifts, it was mainly food that kept our attention and added to our costs due to its enticing smells around the market.
Our first and probably most important cost was a hot chocolate with Baileys and marshmallows. This was definitely needed as a cold chill filled the air even though I was wrapped head to toe in warm clothing.

It was my first taste of Baileys but you could definitely taste it within the drink, adding a warming kick to my favourite beverage. I would have had whipped cream as well but a man decided to be funny and put the canned tin in his mouth to drink from it - instantly putting me off. This came to £6.
We then, as my mam requested, “had to try” the popular crumble that had been gossiped about even in our homecity of Newcastle and was named the best of the best.
After looking at the menu for a while, we decided to go for a delicious apple crumble with Biscoff crumbs on top for £7.
Once we were full, it was time to focus and buy gifts. It wasn’t as busy as I was prepared for it to be, however, which made it far easier to have a closer look at everything and take our time.
We passed what felt like a mile of stalls selling a whole range of goods, from sweets to clothes and cheeseboards. It wasn't long until I found a perfect a gift of unique flavours of fudge for my partner.
Two Snickers and one Jack Daniel’s fudge was only £5 and I know he will love it.
At the next two stalls, I found the perfect Christmas earrings that my partner’s sister should love and his mum as well. The penguin and reindeer jewellery cost £9 but I knew it would be worth it to see them smile on Christmas Day.
I was then looking for a final present for my parents. I found Genie socks from Aladdin and thought they were perfect for my Disney-obsessed Dad (£8) and a small wool minion keyring for my mam which cost £5.
After shopping, it was time for food once again and the closest thing to us was a German stall that was selling bratwurst for £7. It was the perfect ending as we had to rush to the York Barbican to catch Anton Du Beke's Christmas with friends.
Overall, despite going a little over budget, I think the gifts and food were reasonably priced and I cannot wait for my family to open and enjoy their unique Christmas gifts.
