Spider-Man spinoff show scrapped at AmazonMarvel Comics

Spider-Man spinoff series Silk is no longer going ahead at Amazon.

Officially titled Silk: Spider Society, the story was set to be a solo outing for Korean-American superhero Cindy Moon. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller were said to be deep into development on Silk in 2022, but now Deadline reports that plans have changed.

Although showrunner Angela Kang (The Walking Dead) will be bruised by the news, her overall deal at Amazon MGM Studios remains active.

Debuting in a Marvel Comics run a decade ago, Cindy (aka Silk) is one of Peter Parker's classmates, who happens to get bitten by the very same radioactive spider that presented him with arachnid abilities.

It's believed that one of the main reasons Silk: Spider Society isn't happening anymore is the commissioning of a live-action Spider-Man Noir show, starring Nicolas Cage in his first recurring TV role.

Announced this week, with Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) serving as showrunners, this Spider-Verse spinoff will center on Cage's 1930s private-eye version of Peter Parker struggling with his past as a costumed hero.

Amazon MGM executive Vernon Sanders had this to say about the surprise project: "Expanding the Marvel universe with Noir is a uniquely special opportunity, and we are honoured to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers.

"The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way."

Noir will stream on Prime Video.
