The Split: Everything you need to know about new BBC One drama starring Nicola Walker

A good legal drama is engrained in the nation’s television taste, and BBC have the perfect drama to fill the current void.

Staring on Tuesday, The Split delves into the fast-paced world of high-flying divorce lawyers, although the drama itself isn’t about divorce but about “love, relationships and marriage”, as well as commitment.

At the centre, though, a family feud threatens to cause trouble as one of the sisters, Hannah puts her family loyalty to one side and takes a job at a rival law firm – and immediately takes on an interesting case.

But who stars in the female-led ensemble? And when can we watch it? Here is what you need to know before The Split begins…

1) It stars Nicola Walker and Annabel Scholey

The Split boasts a strong female-led cast with Unforgotten star Walker as divorce lawyer Hannah Stern, who crosses the shop floor.

Scholey and Fiona Button play her sisters Nina and Rose, who were young when their father left – the father who returns after a 30-year absence.

Deborah Findlay plays the trio’s mum, Ruth, who opened the family law practice way back in 1885 and has nurtured it since.

2) Stephen Mangan is also among the cast

Episodes star Mangan plays Hannah’s husband, which the strong lawyer will start to question as she dives deeper into the murky world of divorce and commitment.

3) It was filmed in London

The drama was filmed entirely on location in London, the divorce capital of the world.

4) It has been created by Abi Morgan

BAFTA and Emmy award-winning Morgan is the brains behind the programme.

The screenwriter won a BAFTA back in 2005 for Channel 4’s Sex Traffic and has also written for the big screen on The Iron Lady, earning her a BAFTA nomination for Best Original Screenplay, and Shame earning her a nod for Outstanding British Film.

5) It runs for six episodes

The Split will air over six weeks, starting Tuesday 24 April at 9pm on BBC One with episodes available on BBC iPlayer shortly after.
