Springbok's 'outrageous' dummy try leaves half a million viewers in awe
Springbok star Warrick Gelant has gone viral for an outrageous piece of skill that sent opposition defenders "to the corner shop".
The 28-year-old full-back was starring for the Stormers in their 42-12 thumping of URC high-flyers Leinster when he pulled off an audacious dummy that left two opponents scrambling before speeding away and diving over in the corner for a try.
After the ball made its way through the hands off the back of a ruck, it came out to Gelant near the left touchline and, turning on the gas, he tried to beat the onrushing Henry McErlean and Charlie Tector for pace around the outside. It looked as though he would pass the ball on to winger Ben Loader, as he offered the ball to him with his outstretched hand.

Sensing the impending pass, the Leinster pair switched their focus to Loader, who was running in the opposite direction, but were left grabbing the air as Gelant held onto the ball and sprinted away. Wing Rob Russell made a last ditch tackle attempt, but it wasn't enough to stop the flying South African who dived over to score before blowing a kiss to the cheering crowd.
The 79th minute score capped a fine team performance that significantly boosted the South African side's play-off chances, but it was Gelant's moment of magic that everybody was talking about at full-time. Unsurprisingly, the sensational try has now gone viral with over half a million people watching it online.
The official URC Twitter page posted a video of the try moments after the final whistle, describing it as "outrageous". The Stormers themselves got in on the action and cheekily said that Gelant had sent McErlean and Tector "to the corner shop for some chips and coke" with the lightning-quick move.
In total, the clip has already racked up over 110,000 views on TikTok on Saturday, while it has been viewed a further 450,000 times across the league, broadcaster and team's official X pages.
Gelant rejoined the Stormers last year following spells with Western Province and Racing 92. The former Bulls man has 10 caps for South Africa and was part of the 2019 World Cup winning squad, while he has also represented his country in Sevens.
