St Austell and Newquay general election results bring Labour victory

The people of St Austell and Newquay in Cornwall have spoken and chosen a Labour man as their next MP in an election that is seeing the party to a landslide victory. The seat has been held by Conservative Steve Double since 2015, when he defeated Liberal Democrat Stephen Gilbert.

He was last re-elected in 2019 to serve again and represent the two towns and area of mid-Cornwall. Yesterday the seat was challenged by all the main parties as seven candidates entered the race.

And yesterday, the voters of the St Austell and Newquay constituency elected Labour's Noah Law as their next MP. Total votes for each candidate:

  • Noah Law (Labour) - 15,958 (34.1%)

  • Steve Double (Conservative) - 13,488 (28.9%)

  • Stephen Beal (Reform) - 9,212 (19.71%)

  • Joanna Kenny (Liberal Democrats) - 4,805 (10.28%)

  • Amanda Pennington (Green) - 2,337 (5.00%)

  • Jay Latham (Liberal) - 490 (1.05%)

  • Angie Rayner (Independent) - 442 (0.95%)

  • Labour majority - 2,470 (5.29%)

  • Notional 17.11% swing Conservative to Labour

  • Electorate 76,140; Turnout 46,732 (61.38%)

  • 2019 notional: Conservative majority 15,942 (28.93%) - Turnout 55,098 (73.87%)
