St. Louis Activists Celebrate Release of Arrested Protesters

Protesters gathered on Sunday, September 24, outside the St. Louis County Justice Services center in Clayton, Missouri, to support 22 protesters jailed the previous day.

A Saturday protest at the St. Louis Galleria resulted in the arrest of 22 protesters. Fellow activists used the hashtag #Galleria22 to rally support for the arrested protesters.

All 22 of those arrested on Saturday were released, according to St. Louis Dispatch-Post. This video shows the release of Zach Becker.

Of the 22 arrested, six were charged with misdemeanor counts of rioting and interfering with or resisting arrest. One woman, Rev. Karla Frye, was charged with the felony charge of assaulting a law enforcement officer. The remaining 15 protesters will be directed to Richmond Heights Municipal Court for local charges, Miami Herald reported.

Sunday’s rally marks the 10th day of protests in St. Louis. Daily demonstrations began after former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley, who is white, was found not guilty in the fatal shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith, who is black. Credit: Twitter/ Search4Swag via Storyful
