Staff at resort where Jay Slater partied before vanishing haunted by disappearance

Employees at the bar where Jay Slater partied the night before he disappeared have been left devastated after he vanished without a trace.

The apprentice bricklayer was last seen in the island of Tenerife last Monday. And bar staff at the resort where he spent the night before have said it's 'all they're talking about'.

It's believed he met people at the Papagayo beach club, in the busy Playa de la Americas resort and headed to the rural village of Masca with people he met at the NRG music festival.

The 19-year-old, from Lancashire, was reported from the rural village of Masca on June 17. For their 'first-ever Tenerife Weekender Festival', NRG promised a 'weekend of electrifying music, stunning visuals, and innovative productions'.

The closing party was held at the huge venue on the evening of June 16. The following morning, Jay was reported missing after it's believed he spent the night at an Airbnb.

The rental was some 30km away, in the Rural de Teno Park, and he left the property alone and on foot the following morning.

The Manchester Evening News reports that, today, Papagayo club staff member Florín, who was setting up for the night, said he did not remember seeing Jay or the people he was with on the night of the closing party.

He said he had only followed Jay's disappearance from reading news reports. The major search efforts now enter their second week, involving the Civil Guard, Civil Defence, mountain rescue teams and fire crews.

Awave of concern has been felt by both tourists and locals across the Spanish island. Monica, who works at Paniclub in the Playa de la Americas resort, situated close to the bustling nightclub strip, said it's 'all they've been talking about'.

When asked how she felt about the search, which has not yet been successful in finding missing Jay, Monica told the M.E.N: "Everybody here is living nice and happy, so it's very sad news. It's horrible, horrible.

"Yesterday I was off and we were speaking the whole day about him. It's all we are talking about, the local people. It's everywhere in the media, it's so sad."

Monica explained that tourists enjoying the nightlife often drink to excess and that there is a 'problem with drugs', mainly cannabis and cocaine.

When an M.E.N reporter visited the resort, they were offered both drugs a number of times by men standing on street corners holding business cards. Monica said: "Everybody here is looking for fun and drinks.

"People could go out partying and get lost here, in the night time it can be dangerous." Maria, who works at a hotel next door to the bar, added: "It's breaking my heart. Especially for myself, because I have a 19-year-old son.

"I hope he is okay." It was reported that Jay had travelled to the remote holiday rental, around half a mile north of Masca, in the mountainous Rural de Teno Park on Sunday night (June 16) after spending the night partying.

He is said to have left the cottage the following morning and has not been seen or heard from since, with major search efforts now in their second week.
