Stagecoach has announced a number of changes to one of its bus routes which will come into effect very soon. The service, which runs between Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay, serves the three areas with regular buses every day of the week.

Until now, all services along this route have simply been known as ‘Triangle’ services, but this is now set to change. Stagecoach has said: “Everyone loves the Triangle service, but it can be confusing when buses all have the same route name - whether they are going in one direction or the other, or serving different places at different times.”

To address this, as of Sunday (May 5), Triangle buses will instead have designated route numbers. Buses that run between Whitstable and Canterbury will be numbered 400 and 401, while services between Herne Bay and Canterbury will be numbered 600 and 601.

Meanwhile, Broomfield and Beltinge will be served on route 602. These services will operate from Monday to Saturday as follows:

  • 400: Canterbury to Whitstable, Tankerton and Greenhill - every 30 minutes.

  • 401: Canterbury to Whitstable and Tankerton - every 30 minutes.

  • 600: Canterbury to Herne Bay and Greenhill - every 30 minutes

  • 601: Canterbury to Herne Bay - every 30 minutes

  • 602: Canterbury to Broomfield, Beltinge and Herne Bay - every 60 minutes.

Passengers will still be able to travel between Herne Bay and Whitstable on one bus using either the 400 or 600 service via Greenhill. The route number will change at Greenhill but passengers will need to remain onboard to continue their journey onto Herne Bay or Whitstable.

Buses between Herne Bay and Whitstable will run every 30 minutes. Additionally, new connections have been added to the Triangle route, including Estuary View Medical Centre which will be served every 30 minutes on Mondays to Saturdays.

Therefore, passengers will be able to attend medical appointments from Herne Bay using a route 600 bus via Greenhill, or from Tankerton, Whitstable or Canterbury on route 400. The University of Kent Keynes College will now also be served every 30 minutes on route 401.

Sunday bus services will continue to run every 20 minutes between Herne Bay and Canterbury, and between Whitstable and Canterbury, with buses every hour running the full Triangle circuit linking Whitstable and Herne Bay. Stagecoach added: “We hope these new arrangements will make travelling by bus even easier and the timetable more resilient to the impacts of roadworks and traffic congestion.”
