Rapid Bucharest have offered Neil Lennon a £1million-plus-a-year deal in a bid to return to management.

The big-spending Romanians have made an approach to the former Celtic boss. Lennon is currently considering the move although terms have still to be agreed. Rapid have indicated that any potential deal would be seven figure per-season but the finer details have still to be discussed and thrashed out.

The 52-year-old is expected to fly out to Romania this weekend to take in their derby clash with rivals Steaua Bucharest. Lennon will meet with key figures at Rapid and will get a feel for the job.If all goes well on that front then Rapid will push on with negotiations with Lennon’s representative next week. Rapid sacked Cristiano Bergodi after a collapse cost them their title dream.

Bogdan Lobont has been put in caretaker charge. They finished the regular season in second place but sit sixth in the Championship playoffs. Lennon has been linked with a return to Hibs but has had no contact over the recently vacated Easter Road job.

He has been out of football for 19 months since leaving Cypriot team Omonia. The successful boss was also in the running for the Republic of Ireland job. He has had two spells in charge at Celtic and also a stint south of the border at Bolton along with a three year stint at Hibs.
