Polling stations across the UK have opened their doors as the general election 2024 gets underway. Millions of people, living in 650 constituencies in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, will all be voting for who they want to represent them in the House of Commons.

Polling stations opened at 7am on Thursday and will close at 10pm. After that counts will take place overnight with the first UK results expected just before midnight. Most results should then start to come in throughout the early hours of Friday morning.

A winner, and the margin they have won by, should then start to be known by around 4am.

However, if you are still to head to the polling station and cast your vote you may be wondering who is standing in the area where you live.

You can search for the area you live in, and the candidates standing in that seat, in the widget below.

This year is the first general election that people voting need to show a valid form of ID at the polling station. Several different types of ID can be used - including passports, driving licences and bus passes

The name on your ID should match the name you used to register to vote. Even if it's expired, your ID can still be used, provided the photo still resembles you.
