A person has died following an incident on a railway line Tuesday morning (May 21). This was reported to have occurred just before 6am near Stansted Mountfitchet, affecting trains between Cambridge and London.

Emergency services were called to the tracks, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

There was disruption throughout the morning, affecting journeys between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge/Cambridge North/Ely. Delays of up to 55 minutes were also reported, with other services blocked or cancelled.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Stansted Mountfitchet railway station at 5:55am today (21 May) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

All affected railway lines reopened at around 9am this morning. Normal services soon returned to the tracks.
