A serial thief has been banned from eight shops across Nottinghamshire after a string of raids in which he flung a shopping basket at a security guard. Benjamin Holdrick, 41, frightened staff at the Co-op store in Wilmot Lane, Beeston with his aggressive behaviour before stealing packets of bacon and a bottle of wine from the shop on Thursday, May 9.

Holdrick, formerly of Moorfield Court, Stapleford, then kicked an anti-theft door sensor after he was confronted by a security guard, smashing part of the device. Nottinghamshire Police later arrested Holdrick and he was charged with theft and criminal damage.

He was also charged with two more counts of theft, after stealing deodorant from the Home Bargains store in Queen’s Road, Beeston, on May 8, and stealing cheese from the Sainsbury’s store in Derby Road, Stapleford, on April 7. Holdrick pleaded guilty to the charges and has now been made subject of a two-year criminal behaviour order, banning him from entering a number of stores in Beeston, Stapleford, and Chilwell.

He was also jailed for 10 weeks, ordered to pay a £154 surcharge, £92.50 compensation, and £85 costs when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on May 11.

Holdrick cannot enter the Co-op, Savers, B&M Bargains, and Home Bargains in Beeston until May 11, 2026 under the behaviour order. He is also barred from Sainsbury’s, Aldi, and Morrisons in Stapleford, as well as Heron Foods in Chilwell.

If he breaches the conditions of this order, he will be arrested, returned to court, and face ending up back behind bars. PC Samantha Gledhill, of the Beeston neighbourhood policing team, said: “Holdrick has continued to commit shop theft on a regular basis, causing a lot of distress and showing absolutely no regard or respect for the shops and the staff who work within these shops.

“This criminal behaviour order is now the fifth such order we have managed to secure within the space of a month against persistent shop thieves blighting our local community."
