Star Wars is doing an entire Skywalker Saga marathon in cinemas

Star Wars is set to screen a marathon of the entire Skywalker Saga in cinemas, to mark a special anniversary.

This year is 25 years since the release of the very first film in the beloved franchise, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

To celebrate this big anniversary, and to mark the famous 'Star Wars Day' (May 4), cinemas in the US will be screening all of the films in the Skywalker Saga in a mega marathon that is slated to last a total of 24 hours.

Star Wars and LucasFilms announced the mammoth movie event on their website and confirmed that tickets will go on sale today (March 22) at 9 a.m. PT and 12 p.m. ET.

The movie marathon will show all nine films in chronological order: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.

As well as this, the screenings are also set to include an exclusive look at The Acolyte, the upcoming Disney+ series set during the High Republic era – which will arrive on the platform on June 4.

The website says: "We would be honoured if you would join us for this rare opportunity to see Star Wars as it was intended: on the big screen!"

While these special marathon screenings seem to just be in the US at the moment, UK Star Wars fans still have exciting screenings to look forward to.

It was announced last month that The Phantom Menace is getting a re-release in the UK, with the major cinema chains showing the film from May 3 for a limited time.

The film was originally released in cinemas on May 19, 1999, and became one of the highest grossing movies of all time, introducing characters such as Anakin Skywalker and Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi for the first time.

Star Wars: The Acolyte starts streaming on Disney+ on June 4. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
