Coffee lovers, put down that Pumpkin Spice Latte and get ready to take a vacation someplace hot this fall. Starbucks announced today that on Sept. 6, it will be introducing a new beverage—and we are here for it.

The Chile Mocha is Mexican-inspired, taking flavor cues from horchata, mole and champurrado, a thick hot chocolate. It starts with espresso and steamed milk infused with cinnamon and cocoa, and it’s topped with whipped cream and a sprinkling of ancho and cayenne chile peppers, cinnamon, paprika, sugar and sea salt.

Starbucks senior product developer Michelle Sundquist says ancho chiles were chosen for their “approachable amount of heat,” and that the peppers have “a sweet taste” to them.

You can, of course, order this as a Frappuccino or even coffee-free as a hot chocolate (maybe don’t tell your kids until the end of the season, though, or your paycheck will be going straight to these Chile Mochas!)

Last year we predicted that the ubiquitous Pumpkin Spice Latte would be de-throned by the Salted Caramel Mocha, which had surged in popularity. But this year we’re prepared to say that the Chile Mocha might be the beverage of 2016.

Just read this description from Sundquist!

“The first sip should be warm and chocolatey, quickly followed by the creaminess of the whip and just a kiss of sweet and savory heat all at once.”
