State Pension, Child Benefit and other payments due early next week ahead of bank holiday

The next bank holiday takes place on May 27 which means some people will receive their scheduled State Pension or benefit payment early. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has already published updated payment date details for Tax Credits and Child Benefit, while the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Social Security Scotland are expected to announce similar changes soon.

The Spring bank holiday on Monday, May 27 is UK-wide and will see payments due on that date delivered by HMRC, including Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance, made on Friday, May 24. DWP is also expected to announce similar changes to scheduled payments due for State Pension and benefits including Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA).

Payments from Social Security Scotland including Scottish Child Payment and Adult or Child Disability Payment, may also be affected by the bank holiday.

Typically, State Pension and benefit payments are made when offices and phone lines are open. On nationally recognised bank holidays when these communication channels are closed, payments are made on the first working day prior to the affected date.

The Spring bank holiday will be observed in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
