The steaks are high! Theresa May visits Smithfield Market on crucial last day of election campaigning

Theresa May received a less-than-glowing reaction this morning as she visited workers at London’s Smithfield Market.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by husband Philip, visited the famous London meat market in an attempt to win over voters – only a day before polls open in the general election.

But as she mingled among stacks of frozen meat and workers in white overalls, her visit didn’t quite have the desired effect.

Video footage of the visit shows Mrs May being booed as she walks through the market, while faint cries of ‘vote Labour’ can be heard in the background.

Others can be heard shouting ‘end police cuts’.

Despite the frosty reaction, however, it seems that not everyone was quite so hostile – with the Prime Minister seen laughing alongside several butchers.

The early morning visit came after Mrs May was in Slough last night – where she spoke about the threat of terrorism and claimed that Britain may be better equipped to deal with extremism if certain sections of the human rights act are torn up.

She has since been condemned for the suggestion by Amnesty International – who branded her ‘reckless’.

Britain heads to the polls tomorrow to determine who will be the next Prime Minister of the UK.
