Stephen Merchant has spilled the beans on his Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman’s uber strict workouts for their upcoming superhero movie, Logan.
The 41-year-old British actor, who plays Caliban opposite Hugh in the third Wolverine instalment, says he was seriously in awe of how much training the silver screen heartthrob did on set.
Talking to Yahoo! Celeb at the Jurassic Park Live concert at the Royal Albert Hall, Stephen said: “Hugh sort of put everyone to shame as everyday he was working out on set at 4.30am to keep that amazing physique.
“He did about 100 press-ups and hundreds of sit-ups! If that were me I would be angry, hungry and tired all day. He’s just a paradigm of virtue.”
Stephen also praised the actor for being ‘the nicest man in the business’ and said: “He just works hard and is very collaborative and happy to hear your ideas and thoughts.”
Despite revealing Hugh’s fitness tricks of the trade Stephen remained tight-lipped about his own mutant role in the movie.

Speaking about Caliban he said: “I think people are really intrigued as it’s a departure for me because it’s a straight role and of course there’s a lot of prosthetics and make up involved.
“Caliban has been in the Marvel comics for a long time but I can’t really give too much details on how I am featured in the film as 20th Century Fox will cut off my testicles and then feed them back to me.”
He added: “It’s one of those big superhero movies and I’m intrigued to see the finished thing and I’m excited as ever.”
Hugh Jackman recently confirmed Logan, which is set for release in March next year, will be his final outing as the metal-clawed superhero.
Speaking about the studio’s decision to call the film Logan, Stephan said: “Logan is Wolverine’s real name and I think they wanted to mark it out from the other ones.
“As the trailer shows its a character study of him and the film really delves into his character. The movie will emphasise as much on Wolverine the man as Wolverine the X-Men.”
