Steps star Claire Richards 'tries to get out of dancing' as much as possible on tour

Claire Richards has admitted that she tries to reduce her amount of dancing every time the group goes on tour.

Despite being in a pop group named Steps, which were known for their choreographed dance routines in their '90s heyday, Claire has admitted she isn't actually a fan of dancing and tries to get out of doing so where possible.

"I try and get out of even more every time. I love touring, I hate dancing. I'm rubbish at dancing. Oh God, I am, I hate it. It's always been my worst thing," she said on Wednesday's Table Manners podcast.

"I'm not trained so it's always a struggle, it's hard work. It really messes my (mind) and back in the day, I would just sulk in the corner because I could never get it as quickly as the others. I was so moody."

She noted that she and her bandmates Ian 'H' Watkins, Faye Tozer, Lisa Scott-Lee and Lee Latchford-Evans don't dance as much during their live shows nowadays compared to their initial run between 1997 and 2001.

Claire, 46, added that she sometimes feels like she's giving her all with a dance routine but the reality is quite different.

"I think that I'm going for it, like full-on onstage, and I watch a video and there's hardly any movement at all... and I think I'm like Beyoncé," she joked.

When asked to name the best dancer in Steps, Claire pointed to Faye, who came runner-up on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018.
