Fans of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway are in for a treat this weekend as Steve Coogan's comedy alter ego Alan Partridge takes the reins as the guest announcer for the ITV show.

The cringe-inducing presenter will appear with Ant & Dec for their 2 April show, which also features musician George Ezra in the 'End of the Show Show'.

In case you were wondering why Coogan's most famous creation is on primetime television, it's because Alan Partridge is heading on tour across the UK and Ireland with a new stage show.

Steve Coogan will take his comedy character on the road in Stratagem With Alan Partridge, a show that promises to "inform, educate and entertain in approximately equal measure".

The Norwich-based broadcaster is said to have devised, written, choreographed, performed and funded the show which will see him deliver a manifesto for the future and talk on "the way we can move forward".

He'll be donning a head-mic in the style of TED talkers, market hawkers, TV evangelists, backing singers and carnival barkers and combining elements of all those roles.
