The best friend of missing Jay Slater has described how he saw the teen scrambling down a hillside during a video call before saying 'I'll call ya back' as he appeared to answer another call. Jay hasn't been seen since.

The 19-year-old from Lancashire has been missing since June 17, when he disappeared in the mountains of north west Tenerife. He had stayed at an Airbnb rental the night before but was then said to have walked off alone in a remote part of the Island.

Since his disappearance, huge rescue efforts have been carried out involving members of the Civil Guard, fire crews and mountain rescue teams in the Rural de Teno Park.

As the search entered its 12th day, Jay's best friend Brad today (Friday) described how he saw his pal clambering down a rocky hillside in a video call.

He told Isla Traquair on ITV's This Morning: "We did a festival for three days, I’d do one day festival and be tired in the morning, [but] he’d wake up fresh to do it all again. Everything we’ve done… I can’t explain him, he’s just different.”

Explaining the video call, he said: "He was on the phone walking down a road and he’d gone over a little bit - not a big drop - but a tiny little drop and he was going down, and he said ‘I’ll ring ya back, I’ll ring ya back’ because I think someone else was ringing him. If he was thinking like me, he would have gone back up and started walking on the path again… He wouldn't have gone all that way down there.”

Traquair said: "You said you could see his feet and he was sort of sliding down the hill?"

Brad replied: "Yeah, that’s how I knew he went off the road because I could hear like when you walk on gravel… stones.”

The broadcaster asked: "Were you concerned at that point?"

Brad replied: “Not at the time because we were both laughing and he said, 'look where I am' and I was like, 'I’ve just come out of a festival' and he didn’t seem concerned on the phone until we knew how far away he was. I said 'put your location on' and he said 'a 15 minute drive or a 14 hour walk, I don’t know if it’s accurate or not', and I said 'If it’s only a 15 minute drive, get a taxi'.”

Asked what he now hoped for, Brad said: "That he comes home. That someone brings him home, that he’s found somewhere… I don’t know… every day my mind is going blank. I don’t know what to say anymore… I’m praying he comes home every night. I’ve still got hope for him. I still feel like he’s somewhere."
