Stockport's hidden gem bakeries, cafes and restaurants to be celebrated as part of new food tour

A Greater Manchester town affectionately known as ‘the new Berlin’, will have its culinary credentials celebrated with a brand new food tour.

Manchester Bites Food Tours latest adventure will launch later this month, giving food enthusiasts and visitors a chance to explore the town’s ‘vibrant and diverse’ food scene, spanning hidden gems and local favourites. The first tour will take place on Friday, June 28.

Founded in 2021, Manchester Bites is based in the region and runs ‘unique and immersive’ culinary tours. The tour will include pit stops at the area’s first Colombian cafe and a hidden bakery.

Founder, James Pelham has said that the new tour The Stockport Food Tour is designed to showcase the town's ‘rich heritage’ and its ‘growing reputation as a foodie destination’.

“Stockport flies under the radar of people looking for a great day out but it’s got so much to offer," commented James. "Our goal is to highlight the fantastic local talent we have here and to introduce people to a Stockport they probably don’t know about.

“Whether you're a local resident or a visitor, this tour offers a wonderful way to experience the best of what Stockport has to offer."

Guests will be guided through Stockport's historic streets, before enjoying a curated selection of bites and beverages from some of the tour’s favourite vendors. Stop-offs will include the Stockport Gin Distillery, Mamma G’s Caribbean in the Produce Hall and Stockport bakery Sticky Fingers, which is tucked away in the historic Market Hall.

The tour will encompass exclusive tastings with a variety of dishes from some of the town’s top producers and chefs. It will also provide a behind-the-scenes opportunity to meet the business owners and chefs behind some of the town’s most celebrated businesses.

The town’s growing culinary scene has been well-documented, with restaurants like Where the Light Gets In located in the Underbanks town garnering the attention of both locals and national press - and also picking up a number of awards since its inception. Last year, the town also picked up Foodie Neighbourhood of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards.

A number of Stockport restaurants, bars and producers either won or were shortlisted as part of the prestigious event, which saw Where The Light Gets In scoop the best restaurant award, and Cork of the North in Heaton Moor take home food and drink retailer of the year. Stockport Gin, who feature on the new tour, were also shortlisted for the independent drink producer award.

The Stockport Food Tour will last approximately three hours and can be catered to vegans and vegetarians. It will take place every Friday and Saturday and reservations will be required and can be booked via the Manchester Bites food tour website.

The tour is priced at £60 per person, or £40 for under 16s, and includes all the food sampled. Full details won’t be revealed until the day, but guests can also expect a stop-off as a secret bakery and unique pizza spot on the tour.
