Stoke-on-Trent pub shut for refurb as bosses 'step aside' after 12 years

A pub has been closed for a refurbishment. The Saracens Head Steakhouse, in Meir, shut earlier this week after originally intending to stay open this weekend.

It comes as the bosses behind the Sandon Road venue have decided to 'step aside' after 12 years.

In a social media message to drinkers, the venue stated: "We are now closed for the refurbishment. We will hopefully see you all very soon with a brand new look.

"After 12 fantastic years at The Saracens we have decided to step aside and give another operator the opportunity to inject new life into the pub. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers and staff, past and present, for your continued support over the years.

"You kept the pub alive through some really difficult times and we now see a bright future ahead for The Saracens under the new ownership. Emma and Paul have done a fantastic job of managing the pub for us and we are pleased to say they are continuing with the new business going forward. We wish Emma and Paul every success and thank you all once again for your support over the past 12 years."
