Storms on the way this weekend

May 3—VALDOSTA — South Georgia can expect a weekend of stormy weather followed by a workweek of high temperatures, forecasts show.

A mix of "summertime patterns" and a number of frontal systems moving through will bring a number of afternoon storms to the Valdosta area Saturday and Sunday, said Wright Dobbs, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Tallahassee, Fla., office.

Rain chances are expected to bounce around from 30% Saturday afternoon to 70% Saturday night, and starting over with no rain chance Sunday followed by a 60% chance Sunday afternoon, forecasts show.

Dobbs said rain would be "spotty," amounting to about an inch.

Starting Monday, a high pressure ridge should dry things up and bump up temperatures, he said. Valdosta's daytime highs, dipping to the upper 80s over the weekend, should rebound to the lower 90s the rest of the week.

No widespread severe weather is expected, though isolated storms could cause brief bursts of gusty winds, Dobbs said.
