Stormzy hits out at Met Police for linking heroin raid to Notting Hill Carnival

Stormzy has sparked a mixed response after accusing the Metropolitan Police of targeting “black events” after they tweeted about a heroin raid in the lead up to Notting Hill Carnival.

The 24-year-old Grime artist made the race jibe after the force made almost 300 arrests ahead of the West London street party, which is due to take place on Sunday August 27th and Monday August 28th.

Yesterday, the official Met Police Twitter account posted: “In the run up to #NottingHillCarnival, officers have this morning seized what is believed to be a kilo of uncut heroin in #Catford”.

Stormzy retweeted the original message and added: “How many drugs did you lot seize in the run up to Glastonbury or we only doing tweets like this for black events?”

He followed up with: “Genuine question.”

Whilst most of his followers tweeted their support of his remark, Stormzy still faced backlash from some fans.

One wrote: “How many people got stabbed at carnival last year compared to how many at glasto?

“Not everything is a race issue.”

Another added: “Amazing how pissed people are that police targeted known gangs to limit gang violence and make carnival safer.

“How dare ‘The Man’ find Heroin.”

Speaking about Notting Hill Carnival, Police Chief Superintendent Robyn Williams said: “Our officers have been proactive and focused on tackling serious violence and knife crime across London.

“Today’s operation is aimed at ensuring that those who intend to cause trouble at Carnival are prohibited from doing so.

“We are committed to ensuring that Carnival remains a safe, vibrant and enjoyable event; troublemakers are not welcome.”
