Streaming Ratings: ‘The Brothers Sun’ Climbs Chart in Second Week
Netflix’s The Brothers Sun had a solid opening on Nielsen’s streaming charts, but the show took a sizable leap forward in its second week of release.
The series, starring Michelle Yeoh, Sam Song Li and Justin Chien, grew by 38 percent over its debut week to record 960 million minutes of viewing for Jan. 8-14. That was good for third place among original series, behind Fool Me Once (2.4 billion minutes of viewing) — which was also the No. 1 overall title for the second straight week — and Reacher (1.06 billion), which recorded its fifth straight week over the billion-minute mark.

Disney+ and Hulu also saw a good start for Echo, its first binge-released Marvel series and the first Marvel show in the Disney+ era to receive a TV-MA rating. The five-episode show drew 731 million minutes of viewing for the week. That’s above recent premieres for shows like Loki and Secret Invasion, but those two had weekly releases rather than dropping all episodes at once. Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, a prequel series to the movies, also premiered in the top 10 with 542 million minutes of viewing.
The week of Jan. 8-14 also saw another example of the Netflix effect for licensed shows, with the 2017 series Loudermilk — which first aired on DirecTV’s now-defunct Audience Network and then streamed on Prime Video — jumping into the top 10 acquired shows with 846 million minutes of viewing. Bluey (1.5 billion minutes) moved into the top spot among library shows in a week that saw the debut of 10 new episodes on Disney+.
Kevin Hart’s heist movie Lift topped the film ranking with 872 million minutes of viewing on Netflix. Killers of the Flower Moon made its streaming debut on Apple TV+ with 304 million minutes of watch time.
Nielsen’s streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and don’t include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure U.S. audiences, not those in other countries. The top streaming titles for Jan. 8-14, 2024, are below.
