Adam Thomas has insisted he can not dance, as his signing to Strictly Come Dancing sparked accusations of a 'fix'.

The Waterloo Road star has been announced as one of the contestants taking part in the new series of the BBC show. And as Thomas is married to trained dancer Caroline Daly, some social media users claimed the actor would have an unfair advantage.

Thomas, 34, issued a statement on Instagram saying: "Well the news is finally out. Guys, I do not know what I have gotten myself into as I cannot dance to save my life as you'll probably find out sooner or later.

"But you know what, I have been wanting to do this show for so many years now and I cannot believe it is finally happening.

"I cannot wait to get on that dancefloor and show you how I cannot dance to save my life."

The former Emmerdale star added in his caption: "I know I’ve definitely got my work cut out… but am up for the challenge."

Thomas – the younger brother of Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas – married his long-term girlfriend Caroline Daly in 2017. They are parents to nine-year-old son Teddy and five-year-old daughter Elsie-Rose.

Daly is joint Principal of the ABCD dance school in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.

On their wedding day she performed a specially choreographed dance routine for Thomas before pulling him onto the dancefloor.

Other celebrities confirmed for the new series of Strictly so far include journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy, 78-year-old newsreader Angela Rippon and Sherlock star Amanda Abbington.

TV presenter Angela Scanlon, who is competing in this year's show, has also been linked to accusations of having an unfair advantage.

The One Show reporter and Robot Wars host, 39, trained as an Irish dancer and toured the world with the O'Shea Irish Dance Company. She even performed in US live show Irish Thunder.
