Strictly Come Dancing contestant Angela Scanlon has revealed that she recently bathed her feet in bleach to recover from an injury.

Speaking to Metro, the TV host revealed that it was her mum's idea and that the process didn't harm her.

Scanlon said: "I’ve had a miraculous recovery. I had a blister infection last week, which was pretty grim, but actually my mum was over from Ireland and she gave me a tip which sounds kind of medieval! I basically have been bathing my feet in a gentle-level bleach."

The One Show presenter also said the unusual method did its job: "Actually, it’s worked a treat!"

Scanlon and partner Carlos Gu finished top of the scoreboard last week impressing the judges with their Charlestone to Who's Got the Pain from the classic musical Damn Yankees.

They scored 35 with three nine's and an eight from the judges, two ahead of their closest competitors Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola.

While Scanlon reached the top of the leaderboard, others were not as lucky with radio presenter Nikita Kanda being sent home after the dance-off.

Kanda became the second contestant to leave the dancefloor after Les Dennis was eliminated the previous week after scoring just 16 while dancing a tango to The Human League.

This week, Scanlon is scheduled to perform a Vienesse waltz to Calum Scott and Leona Lewis' duet You Are the Reason.

Other contestants still in the competition include newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Waterloo Road star Adam Thomas, former tennis player Annabel Croft and EastEnders legend Nigel Harman.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
