Strictly Come Dancing bosses are reportedly keen to sign up a member of the Royal Family for this year’s series.

According to the report, Zara Tindall (formerly Phillips) and Mike Tindall are on producers’ ‘wish list,’ as is Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

A source told The Sunday Mirror: “Strictly is a proper family show and hugely respected, so bosses think it wouldn’t be a problem for a royal to take to the dance floor.”

Zara Tindall’s husband Mike would be a particularly likely choice, continued the tabloid. He’s already appeared on reality television, having competed on The Jump in 2014. He is also reportedly close friends with one of the celebrity bookers at the BBC.

And there are said to be many Strictly fans within the Royal Family. Not only did Sophie, Countess of Wessex and her daughter Lady Louise Windsor visit the Strictly set and sit in the audience last year, but Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall is also said to be a huge fan.

Sarah Ferguson made it clear back in 2010 that she would like to appear on America’s version of the series, Dancing With The Stars.

Ferguson told Inside Edition that year: “I would quite like to go on Dancing With The Stars. I would like somebody to teach me to tango. I do know the show and my children would be so proud.”

The BBC has responded to the possibility of a Royal family member joining this year’s Strictly with the following statement:

“We don’t comment on speculation and the line-up will be announced in due course.”

Strictly Come Dancing is one of BBC’s biggest hits, and has continued to dominate Saturday night ratings for the last few years.
