Krishnan Guru-Murthy has to safety pin clothes after huge Strictly weight loss
The journalist has been shedding the pounds on the dancefloor
What did you miss?
Krishnan Guru-Murthy has revealed he’s lost so much weight on Strictly Come Dancing that he has to safety pin his jacket.
The newsreader is currently competing on the BBC ballroom contest with pro dancer Lauren Oakley.
During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, the TV star shared that the endless rehearsals have transformed his body.
What, how, and why?
The star was chatting about his experience on the dancefloor when host Ranvir Singh, who was filling in for Lorraine Kelly, remarked: “Can I just say, that jacket looks very loose on you.”
Jumping up, she insisted on seeing the back of Guru-Murthy’s blazer as he started to laugh.
“It’s all pinned at the back!” she exclaimed, getting the broadcaster to show it to the cameras.
“See how much weight this man has lost? It’s got safety pins down the back – it doesn’t fit you anymore!”
Smiling, Guru-Murthy said: “You weren’t supposed to see that!”
Singh asked what had happened to his body, and Guru-Murthy made a sucking in motion.
He also showed how he was now using a different notch on his belt too – seven holes apart from the one he used to use.
“I’m keeping this belt forever,” he laughed.
The star said slimming down was also good considering he has a genetic heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which the NHS says is where “the heart muscle cells enlarge and the walls of the heart chambers thicken”.
“It’s all been very good for me,” he said.
“I came with all sorts of fears about my health and it turned out to be nonsense and it’s all been really good for me because obviously being a bit lighter and healthier generally is always good for heart health."
What else did Krishnan Guru-Murthy say?
The TV star also told how his stint on the dancefloor had been life-changing.
“I’ve been so open about how Strictly has changed my life in a way,” he said.
Singh teased that the star didn’t used to believe the TV contest could have such an impact.
He agreed: “I never understood what people meant and I thought that was all nonsense when they said they had learned loads about themselves… I thought, ‘How can you learn lots about yourself doing Strictly?’
“And it turns out you can.”
Strictly is on BBC One on Saturday 4 November at 7.05pm.
