Strictly star Adam Peaty’s girlfriend has spoken out after his “near-kiss” with dance partner Katya Jones at the end of their tumultuous tango.

Viewers were left gob-smacked wondering whether the Strictly curse had struck again after the intimate clinch between the Olympic gold medal swimmer, 26, and the professional dancer, 32, on the BBC flagship show a fortnight ago.

Mr Peaty’s girlfriend Eiri Munro, 23, thanked her supporters after she took a break from social media following the steamy embrace.

She said: “I have been receiving a lot of hate on the internet - people saying really horrible stuff. I am trying to lay it to rest now as I am tired.”

In a new TikTok video, she said: “I want to say thank you to everyone. It makes me a bit emotional.

“Even when it’s a thousand nice comments and one mean one, it’s so easy to feel like the world is against you and it did feel like that for a while.

“I then had a reality check and I remembered that I am not that important.

“But you guys made me feel so much better, those that were checking up on me and those that were commenting. Thank you.”

Mr Peaty hit out at online critics saying he “would not be overcome by your gossip” last week.

He added: “To everyone who wants to see what they want, your comments have real-life consequences.

Comedian Seann Walsh, 34, was infamously photographed kissing Ms Jones outside a pub when they were paired up for the 2018 series of the BBC dance competition.

Neil Jones, 36, and Ms Jones later announced their split in August after 11 years together but insisted the kiss was not the reason for the break-up.
