Strictly star Victoria Pendleton announces heartbreaking death of twin brother

Strictly Come Dancing star Victoria Pendleton has shared the heartbreaking news that her twin brother Alex has passed away.

In an Instagram post, Victoria shared a photo of her and Alex together and paid tribute to her twin, who fought a long battle with an aggressive brain tumour.

"Alex Pendleton, 24.09.80 - 22.06.23," Victoria began. "If you know me then you likely know my twin brother Alex. I just wanted to let you know that this morning Alex sadly passed away after an epic battle against an aggressive brain tumour.

"He will be painfully missed by many. Rest in peace my kind, brave twinnie, you will forever be in our hearts."

Victoria received many messages of support from friends on the post, including from Dame Kelly Holmes, who wrote: "I am so so sorry to read this Vic #sending much love to you and family Xx."

This Morning presenter Dermot O'Leary wrote: "So sorry, lovely fellow. Xx," while Loose Women presenter Andrea MacLean added: "I’m so sorry to hear this V. Sending you all my love."

Olympic gold medalist Victoria competed on Strictly in 2012, where she was paired with Brendan Cole. In 2019, she competed on Channel 4's celebrity edition of SAS: Who Dares Wins in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.

Ahead of her appearance on the latter show, Victoria spoke to The Mirror about her personal experience with cancer, sharing that Alex bravely battled leukaemia as a child.

Victoria said: "It was diagnosed quickly and he’s with me today. I know many children and adults are not that lucky. I always feel very ­fortunate that I have him.

"I’m in debt to the doctors and nurses for giving him the treatment he needed."
