Storm surge from Tropical Storm Ophelia caused coastal flooding along the United States’ eastern seaboard on Saturday, September 23, after making landfall in North Carolina.
Footage posted by the Virginia Beach Fire Department showed waves crashing against the shore as sand was removed from the boardwalk.
As of Saturday evening, all Tropical Storm Warnings had been discontinued and Ophelia was downgraded to a Tropical Depression, according to the National Weather Service.
